A Lesson in People

In a week on November 12th, it will be 3 months that I have been traveling. I have met many hundreds of people from different walks of life. Different races, religions, ages, political preferences, sexual orientation, abilities, different financial backgrounds, blue collar, white collar, etc.

So far this journey has definitely been an enlightening lesson in people, kindness, respect & human nature.

Each person here is just trying to enjoy life in their own way. For example, I was recently annoyed with a camping neighbor that had me up twice well after midnight because they chose to be loud, drink & party outside. I could have reported them cuz quiet time begins at 11pm, but, I didn’t. Even though they were terribly rude, I realized that they were on ‘vacation’ & just wanted to relax & have fun. They weren’t obnoxious or a threat to me, Sadie or my property, they were just being disrespectful to their neighbors & the quiet time rules.

Disney’s claim to fame is that it’s the happiest place on Earth. To me it is, to others, not so much. It’s really all about your attitude & perspective. Some folks come here and are happy, others arrive & bring all their burdens with them. They are unhappy even on vacation. I witnessed partners arguing & children getting major timeouts. I walk Sadie 6 times a day & occasionally see the same people a few times during the walk. Some of them never smile. I sometimes wonder why they are so unhappy, even while they are at Disney.

Some folks are friendly, others not so much. For example, while walking Sadie today I said ‘Hi’ as I passed an older couple, they totally ignored me so then I said ‘Hello’. They still ignored me & kept walking. But, instead of me getting annoyed, I decided it’s ok, them not returning a greeting to me isn’t the end of the world. You just never know what’s going on in others lives.

Lots of folks bring their political preferences & beliefs with them when they travel. I guess to them it’s important to proudly display who they intend to vote for. At first, I though is that really necessary ? You’re on vacation, give it a break. But then I realized I have a choice to let it bother me or a choice to simply ignore their displays. I chose the latter.

I made a few friends along the way. It’s actually sad when a nice camping neighbor leaves. The empty campsite is hosed down & cleaned so that it looks like no one was ever there. Then I wait & wonder who will park their family in that spot.

So far I learned that most people are nice, willing to help & have good intentions. Others are more private & aren’t on vacation to make friends. And some others just aren’t nice at all, and that’s OK. Life is too short to concern myself with trying to be nice to someone who just isn’t interested.

I am happy to be at Disney for the holidays. It’s also comforting that there are familiar friendly faces here. I will continue to say hello to camping neighbors & whether or not they return the greeting, I will still smile.

3 days after Halloween …

It’s officially Christmas at Walt Disney World !! The campground is quickly becoming festive as well … Inflatable Olaf’s are beginning to appear!

They just skipped right over Thanksgiving 🤷🏻‍♀️ !! Although the marina entrance to Magic Kingdom is half autumn / half Christmas ?

WDW ushered in the 2019 holiday season tonight with the unveiling of ‘A Frozen Holiday Wish’ lighting of Cinderella’s Castle. The holiday fireworks display begins tonight as well. The first pic is an actual pic of the unveiling event that just occurred at 6:00pm.

Now back to the campground … It was Sadie day today. We walked 4.5 miles & met a couple pups. Besides walking, one of Sadie’s favorite things to do became a nightly ritual shortly after I rescued her … she loves yogurt! It all started over a year and a half ago when I bought her some homemade dog yogurt at Dining with Dogs. Unfortunately she can’t enjoy their yogurt while we’re on the road, so I just buy her plain or vanilla Greek yogurt, I sometimes add a few blueberries. Please enjoy the attached video!

The last pic in this blog is of a massive Ford fifth wheel truck that I never knew existed !! It’s one third F350, one third F450 & one third F550 !! It’s approx 26 feet long & can seat 8! It also has giant tractor trailer tires. The wheels look so far apart & makes it seem like it can crack in half 😳 ?! The owner told me it gets 10 miles to the gallon.

Sea World

Today’s adventure was a trip to Sea World with my longtime friend (over 30 years) & fellow retiree, Rob Hodge & his wife Diane. They have a home near Kissimmee, so they have premiere season passes to all the parks. They knew exactly where everything was located & gave me their VIP tour … we walked over 4 miles! Definitely an awesome day! Thanks Rob & Diane ! 👍😃💖

We saw sea lions, otters, penguins, macaws, storks, manatee, turtles, sharks & sting rays. We watched 2 shows featuring dolphins & killer whales! I didn’t have the nerve to ride any of their roller coasters, plus I didn’t want to get soaking wet! 🤪

Poor Sadie had a boring day at home. I promised her I’d make it up to her with a trip to the pet store next week!

Don’t forget to turn your clocks back tonight!!

OH NO Atwn !! Get out the salt & shovels … the forecast is calling for snow showers Thursday night into Friday morning!! It’s too soon !!!! 🥶❄️☃️

Enjoy the pics & videos!!

ICON Park Orlando

Even though 30 some years ago I skydived from a perfectly healthy airplane, there is no way I would be convinced to get on either of these rides that I saw this morning at ICON Park on International Drive in Orlando.

The Wheel is also referred to as the Eye of Orlando. It is one of the world’s largest Ferris wheels at 18 stories! Up to 15 people can ‘relax’ in one of the many capsules as it spins at a 23 minute rotation. Take your Dramamine & you can even have dinner & cocktails while spinning ! 🤢

The next attraction, at a cost of $10 million, The Sky Tower was built in 1974 and stands 400 feet high. It’s the world’s tallest swing ride. For $12 per person, you can throw up non stop for 4.5 minutes ! 🤮

Both rides offer a breathtaking aerial view of Orlando … I’ll take their word for it! 😂

The last pic is the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not museum, and yes, the building is crooked on purpose 😮 and no, I did not visit it.

More adventures await tomorrow !! Stay Tuned!

Halloween at the Fort !!

The winners of the golf cart parade yesterday were the pirate ship, the taco truck & the slinky dog. There was also a pumpkin carving contest & a campsite decorating contest. Not sure who won those 2 competitions. Each winner received a handcrafted wooden plaque.

Halloween at the Fort started off this morning with a runners race through the entire campground. Then during the hottest part of the day they held the dog costume parade. Sadie did not win but she was ok with that, all she wanted to do was get back home & eat & relax in the air conditioning !! A turtle named Speedy was one of the 3 winners 🤷🏻‍♀️ !!!!

The day ended with 3 hours of trick or treating !! I handed out 850 pieces of candy !! Until you’ve been here & experienced it in person, you can’t even imagine the amount of golf cart traffic & people roaming each loop in search of treats !! Grateful to the nice neighbor that gave me a margarita to help me get through the evening! Even after it officially ended at 9pm, the trick or treaters kept coming, but I closed up shop at 8:55 !! Phew … Glad that’s over !!

Cannot believe tomorrow is November 1st !! It’s currently 81 degrees here at 10:05pm !!

Enjoy the pics & video !! Goodnight !!😴💤

Golf Cart Parade …

The parade lasted about 50 minutes. I can’t possibly post all the decorated golf cart photos … so here’s a sample of the most creative & unusual that were competing. Winner won’t be announced until 8:30pm.

Please enjoy the attached 20 pics & 3 videos & Sadie getting some lovin’ from the neighbor kids.

Tomorrow I will post pics of Sadie & other pups at the pet costume parade! That ought to be a hoot !

T-minus 3 hours …

Less than 3 hours until the Disney Halloween golf cart parade begins!! Hundreds of golf carts will be strutting their best Halloween decorations as they vie for the Best Dressed Golf Cart Award & bragging rights for a year!!

Early this morning people began claiming their spots with chairs on the parade route … including me … the only difference is that’s my only outdoor chair, and being a city girl, having had many items stolen while living in the big city, I chained & padlocked my chair to the post!! 🤣😂

Say hi to neighbor Judy, she sewed & embroidered orange Mickey bags & filled them with goodies for the first 75 trick or treat kids!

Stay Tuned for many golf cart parade pics !!

BACON !!

Video – woke Sadie up this morning with a piece of bacon !! 🐶🥓🤣😂

1st pic – it was a HOT one today !! Besides wearing shorts & a tank top, I was wearing the humidity !! 🥵

2nd pic – this golf cart parade is serious business !

3rd pic – No, my feet aren’t dirty, that’s just my Florida flip flop tan !! 🤣

Enjoy !! Donna & Sadie 🐾

And so it begins …

The Halloween camping die-hards are arriving. There are so many adults and kids here!! The overflow parking lots are literally overflowing. Folks are having to park their cars, trucks & rigs on the grass until they are cleared to go to their assigned sites. (First 4 pics)

The Halloween site decorating competition is heating up & getting fierce! There is a group of people that bought out a few campsites and are using them just to build haunted houses 🤷🏻‍♀️ ! They brought everything in a box truck including lumber & are using a commercial chop saw & nail gun to construct walls! One site in my loop has a full blown Jurassic Park display complete with dinosaurs & a raptor cage. I have never seen so many headless horsemen ! Plus I witnessed around 6 people stuffing a huge dummy then trying to stand it up, but, they failed because it was way too heavy for the 6 of them … plan B, I suppose?

Disney campground Halloween decorating is serious business !!!!

The golf cart decorating competition is heating up as well. There are 400 rentable Disney carts plus folks haul their own carts here. The golf cart parade could potentially have up to 500 carts participate 🤦🏻‍♀️ ! I’ve seen some very creative carts whizzing by! I was told to stake out my spot early on the side of the road cuz it gets crowded when the golf cart parade drives through. Stay tuned for those pics on Wednesday night.

Update on the Mickey ice cream bar that I previously complained about the price … well … it was worth every penny of $5.69!! It was the best ice cream bar I’ve ever eaten !! Lori Wagner & Ann Coldren both agree it is delicious!!

Sadie requested a turkey selfie 🤣

Check out the cutie patootie dog in the 14th pic … almost looks human ??!!

Enjoy your week !!

Columbia 😋

After numerous walks, meeting other doggies (say hi to Heidi the beagle pup) & getting petted by lots of neighbors, Miss Sadie enjoyed a nice nap whilst I met the Wagners for dinner at my new favorite restaurant, Columbia!!

Their food is incredible, the atmosphere is relaxing & the wait staff are friendly, polite & very attuned to their guests needs. I am very impressed with the management of this restaurant. Others should follow their lead!

Check out the red & white polka dot cars roaming the Disney compound! These are Disney Lyft vehicles. They will pick you up & drop you off at your campsite! Just download the app, request a car, pay for the ride and off you go !! Easy peasy !!

Even though everything comes with a price tag, Disney definitely makes your visit here as convenient & comfortable as possible! After all you are on vacation, so you’re supposed to be spending money!! Plus every interaction you have with a cast member is pleasant. They always wave at you or say hi to you. Security is always roaming the grounds to ensure everyone is having a safe & enjoyable time!

We may never leave !! 🤣🐶🐾
